Ecco Footwear invited me and the Hubby to the O2 yesterday to do Up at the O2. As we are both fit and love a challenge, it was great to do this walk and was really reasonable for about £20!! Before we got kitted out in our vests, Ecco shoes and harness, we had a quick safety chat and was briefed on the dos and don’ts of the walk. Once we were all info’ed up, we got our kit on and prepared for our accent at the main entrance of the O2. After some more info about how to use our equipment, we were off! I volunteered to go first and was really surprised at how bouncy the actual walkway was. You have a cable that your harness attaches to which you have to hold onto all the time so the quick latch doesn’t apply but there is a hand cable above that, which you can hang onto and is really sturdy and strong.
Once you pass the first 30 degree climb, it starts to level out a bit more and before, you know it, you are at the top! The view is pretty incredible with Canary Wharf and the Thames and it was great to see a view of our old flat too in Stratford. We got to stand on the platform for about 15 minutes which was nice as we had plenty of time to take pictures and as the weather was gorgeous, we enjoyed some lovely sunshine too.
Soon it was time for our decent and we got down in record time. The 30 degree on the way back was of course pretty steep but with the Ecco walking shoes you are provided with, you don’t feel unsafe and the tread on footwear gripped the walkway perfectly.
If you haven’t done the walk or are thinking about it, I would definitely say it is something you should do! You can be up and down in about an hour and it was lots of fun and you have a safety guide with you all the way. The view was pretty amazing and if you love London like me, it’s always nice to see the city on a gorgeous sunny day from an iconic structure like the O2.
