Some of you may already know this but I am currently writing my own book.
I have always been good at making up stories on paper and always have the most fantastical random dreams so instead of ignoring these trippy nightmares, I started my 1st(proper) novel this year and am so far about 8,000 words in.
To help along with this process, I thought I would read Cecelia Ahern’s novel ‘Where rainbows end’ as she has had a fair few of her books made into films and if I had the same result, I would be pretty happy too! There is also a film version called, ‘Love, Rosie’ which is out this year so I thought this book would be a good way to compare the novel against the film version.
I had a pretty open minded view about the book and her writing ability but I was actually pretty surprised about how simple and basic the story line was. I know sometimes the easier the storyline, the easier it is to make into a film or TV show but this book just didn’t get me excited at all.
Cecelia actually set the story out as letters, emails, texts and instant messages but the whole time I was reading it, I was dying for some proper content, description and even some emotion from the characters but it left me actually feeling better about my own book! (Is that bad?)
Reading this book has made me even more determined to get my own novel finished and push it off to publishers as I think it’s more original, action packed and there is passion and feeling for the characters. There is a love story involved but in the grand scale of other events happening, it is just one part of the characters lives which I think is what life is all about.
I may share a few chapters with you as I am keen to know what people think so please let me know if you are interested in reading a section.
Now I just need to finish the thing….
