I love discovering new places to eat in London. With Soho, Notting Hill, Shoreditch and Clapham, we are spoilt for choice in our capital but there is a diamond hidden right near Bank station which is warm, welcoming and has great food to boot.
The Tavern Steak and Oyster is part of the London Capital Club on Abchurch Lane and is one of the best places I have eaten in London. Affordable, open to all and located in a historic part of London, it is an ideal venue for a catch up with friends or for a date night with your loved one.
Amy and I headed to the restaurant one night recently as we really wanted to sample the Tavern’s Steak and other options they had on the menu.
After being seated in comfortable leather seats, we glanced over the menu and made our choices. For starters, I ordered the Ham hock terrine with red cabbage and marmite mayo and Amy ordered the Burrata with grilled courgette and herb and anchovy salsa.
My ham hock was perfectly delicious and full of flavour but I was slightly jealous of Amy’s burrata which looked utterly divine when it arrived at our table.
For our mains, we stuck to our promise and we both ordered steak. I opted for the Fillet which was nice and chunky and perfectly cooked while Amy opted for the Flat iron steak as she prefers hers more well done then I do. Both dishes arrived with tasty chips that were crispy and morish and salad for a little greenery.
Even though we were both suitable stuffed from our beautiful steaks(trust me, they were heavenly), we decided it would be rude not to try a dessert each so I ordered a slice of the Pumpkin pie with maple cream and pecan crumble and Amy wanted to try the Apple and quince crumble with warm custard.
Now I have tried pumpkin pie before and I do remember it being very sweet but very nice and Tavern’s version was just as good as I remember. The maple cream offered a great balance between the textures and the pecan crumble was like the icing on the cake. Amy’s apple crumble also looked and smelt just as amazing as mine did and if I had more room, I may have ordered one of those also.
Check out the Tavern Steak and Oyster for yourself – it is well worth it, I promise!
