For many of us, exercise and keeping fit is something of a horrid chore. It’s something we know we should be doing every day, but we are all guilty of rolling our eyes at the thought of it. We even make up excuses why not to partake in it which often is a detriment to our health.
However, the reason it is a chore is because you aren’t doing the right exercise. If you hate going for a run, why are you going for a run? If going to the gym brings you out in the wrong kind of sweat, why go and put yourself through it? There are plenty of other ways to get your dose of daily physical activity that you may well enjoy and dare I say it, even look forward to.
Think of all the times you have been to a party or a nightclub and danced the whole night away. You enjoyed it, right? And you probably woke up the next morning a bit sore but happy – and that’s because it is a great form of exercise and releases endorphins that make you feel happy.
If this is you, why not incorporate dance into your exercise routine? Whether that is joining a dance school, finding a workout class that incorporates some form of dance, such as Bollywood aerobics or Zumba, or just having a good old boogie around your living room or kitchen – it can all make a difference.
Walking is one of the best forms of exercise that there is because you can do it pretty much anywhere, at any time. It is suited to everyone of all ages and fitness levels. Grab your trainers or walking boots and take a stroll to the shops, the park, along the beach, or for a great big hike in the mountains. Start off small and work your way up!
It’s really easy to incorporate it into your daily life as well. Park at the other end of the car park when you go shopping, walk across or take the longer route home instead of the shortcut you usually take. Get off the bus or train a stop or two earlier and walk the rest of the way – you will easily build up your fitness levels without even realizing it!
If you love animals, this is a great form of exercise. Not only does it allow you to build a bond and get up close and personal with these wonderful creatures, but it also gets you outdoors and in the fresh air and getting exercise without even realizing it. Stay afterward to help with the mucking out – it is an even better way of burning some calories!
Getting physical activity and exercise into your day shouldn’t feel hard or like a chore. It should be something that you enjoy, and that makes you feel good. Try a few things we have listed out and get fit this summer.
