Are you saving for something big? Maybe you’re budgeting so you can put money aside for a deposit on your first home, or perhaps you’re saving for a once-in-a-lifetime holiday?
But just because you’re saving up and avoiding spending money on things you don’t need, it doesn’t mean you have to let the fun things slide — and one of these fun things that’s worth hanging onto is date night.
Making sure you spend time with your partner is essential, and date nights are a key time to focus on your relationship. However, they needn’t break the bank. There are plenty of thrifty ways to spend time together.
Here are some cool ideas to inspire you…
Get nostalgic
Whether you’ve been together for a year or a decade, reminiscing about the early days of your relationship can be very romantic. There are sure to be plenty of things you can do to remind you of the time when you first got together that won’t cost the earth, from streaming music that was around at the time and watching the first film you went to see at the cinema or going to the first bar you went to together.
Be creative
If you’re trying to manage your finances but you still want to do something memorable for your next date night, why not get creative? Channel your inner artist by drawing your partner and vice versa or head to the local park to try sketching what you see.
If you’d prefer to channel your creativity in a different way, baking is a lovely way to spend time together. Whether you’re baking cakes or pies, working together to create delicious desserts and other scrumptious things combines teamwork with a yummy pay-off.
Get some fresh air
Put your walking boots on and get hiking. There are plenty of footpaths and hills to trek along. From coastal paths to woodland areas, you can enjoy time together outside and take in all that nature has to offer. Gary and I do this a lot and we find it really helps put you in a romantic frame of mind.
Stay in
Why not plan a picnic in your own living room? Choose your favourite nibbles, search for a deal on your favourite wine and take a seat in familiar surroundings. To make things really romantic, light some candles, select a soothing soundtrack, and enjoy spending some quality time together without having to fork out for fine dining and fares for the taxi home.
You don’t have to spend lots of money to enjoy spending time with your partner. What frugal date night will you try next? Do you have any other ideas for a wallet-friendly date as I would love to hear them?
